SMARTER goals offer an extension of the SMART goal model. The letters E and R after the word SMART can signify the following:

R – Re-evaluate, reward, reassess, revise…
The most commonly used meanings are evaluate and reassess. This means that you pay attention and evaluate your progress towards your goal, and then – if it’s not as you would like it – you reassess your goal and see if you can tweak it in some way that gives you a better chance of succeeding.
This is like the way asatellite navigation system evaluates your progress towards your destination as you drive, and the time it’s going to take you to get there using the current route. If it finds there are delays on your route, the system will reassess your route and find a quicker way to get you there.
