Course Summary

In this course you have learned what clear communication is and why it is important. You have examined some of the obstacles to clear communication and some tips for avoiding these and other potential problems. You should now feel well-resourced to improve the clarity and effectiveness of your written, verbal and non-verbal communications in the workplace.

Discussion Questions

Discussion questions are used by workgroups who are taking courses concurrently and want to engage in a conversation about the course content. The use of discussion questions is optional.

  1. What is the main mode of communication used in your workplace? What obstacles does it present to clear communication, and how could you make it work better for everyone?
  2. Which of the factors discussed previously do you find most helpful when a colleague is communicating with you to help you understand and receive their message clearly?
  3. Which of the three modes of communication do you feel you are most successful at using to communicate clearly? Which would you like to improve on?
  4. How will you consciously change your communication style (based on what you have learned in this course) to communicate more clearly in the workplace?
